Cross Country Tandem Flight - Cross Country Course - GPS, Vario & Radio Course - Hike & Fly Course
Tandem Flight - $200 (3-4 hours) *
A tandem flight is the perfect way to easily and safely experience paragliding with virtually no experience required. To start off your experience we'll meet in the landing zone to go over some paperwork and get you setup with a comfortable harness. Next, you'll get to experience an exicting offroad drive up the mountain in order to get to launch. Once on launch we'll get you into your harness and explain everything you need to know for launching, flying and landing, this only takes 5 minutes as there is very little you are required to do. Finally we'll try a few practice launches without the wing before getting clipped in. The tandem pilot will inflate the wing overhead and then you and the pilot will run down the hill for a few steps before being gently lifted away from hill. Once in the air you can kick back and relax, take in the views from 3000' above the ground. If you are feeling brave you can take the controls for yourself and feel what it's like to fly a paraglider. If you are even braver we can try some acrobatics as this gentle flight turns in a thrilling roller coaster ride.
Half Day Lesson - $50 (3-4 hours) *
People's time is a precious thing and not everybody can afford a whole day out at the flight park. In this 1/2 day course we'll spend 3 or 4 hours learning the basics of paragliding and practicing 1 type of launch. The goal of the day is to learn how to get the wing overhead and stabilize there. If this is picked up quickly enough and conditions are right, a gentle push from your instructor may help you leave the ground for a few seconds as the wing picks you up 3' to 4'. Generally these sessions are done in the North Hills area at a local park where there is no training hill so real training flights are saved for a later time.
Day Lesson - $100 (7-8 hours) *
The day lesson is the best way to try paragliding out with no commitment required. All your gear will be supplied for the day and all you need to do is show up ready to learn and have fun. We will spend some time learning some theory and safety about paragliding and quickly get you setup on your own gear for the day. The order of the day is to learn 1 of 2 different launches to the point where you have the wing under enough control to launch from a small training hill. You can expect to get several training flights with heights from 5't to 30' off the ground. All the important points of launching, flying and landing will be covered so that you can execute all of these safely and easily. You will be under supervision from the instructor the entire time as well as hooked up with a radio so that the entire training flight can be monitored and coached to ensure safety.
First Solo Flight - $200 (2-5 days) *
I promise you that you will remember your first flight for the rest of your life!! So filled with anticipation, excitement and nerves, trusting in all your training but not quite sure what it will be like. Stellar Paragliding will spend as many days as needed in this course to get you ready for your first flight. At Stellar we don't charge by day because we don't want to punish students who may take a little longer than others to be ready for this BIG step! Generally most students take about 3 full days of training before they are ready for their first flight, though it can be as little as 2 and it's not uncommon for it to take 5 or more! Before this flight we will go over a great deal of theory and skills so that you have all the knowledge you need to execute the flight. This knowledge is always confirmed through a written quiz to ensure that students are fully prepared. Most first flights occur late in the evening when we have the smoothest air. You will have a launch instructor monitoring your launch and in constant radio contact with you the whole time. At the end of your flight you will be passed over to the landing instructor who will walk you through your approach to ensure a safe landing. Afterwards high fives and congratulations will be the order of the day followed by much boasting to all your peers on how you mastered the air ways!
Five Solo Flights - $500 (2-4 weeks) *
The Five Solo Flights course is the absolute best way to put paragliding to the test and decide for yourself whether this is something you want to pursue. Paragliding isn\t for everyone and it takes a lot of time and dedication to do it safely and enjoyable but those who do know it is well worth it. All the gear you will need will be supplied to you for all the flights. You will learn more advanced theory during each successive flight and practice new skills in the air to build up the tools you will need to fly in more difficult conditions.
Novice License Package - $1500 (3-12 months) *
This intensive course covers everything and more for your P2 (Novice) license sign-off. The Novice course in Stellar is unlike any other course offered by another school in respect to the comprehensiveness of the teaching. Students at Stellar learn a whole host of skills which will serve them throughout their flying career and ensure their safety. The novice course gets students to the point where they are legally allowed to fly by themselves without intstructor supervision. The course covers at least 30 high flights all monitored by an instructor with radio communication. By the end students may have 10 or more hours of airtime, having experience thermal flying, ridge flying and some basic acrobatic maneuvers. Every 5 flights are prefaced with a quiz to ensure students have both theory and practical knowledge. Payments can be broken down into sections to allow students to pay as they go and never feel pressured to complete the course if they decide paragliding is not for them:
- Flight 1: $200
- Flights 2-5: $300
- Flights 6-10: $400
- Flights 11-20: $400
- Flights 21-30: $200
Cross Country Tandem Flight - $300 (1 day) *
This flight is only available to paraglider pilots or those that have taken a standard tandem flight with Stellar before. This flight can be a teaching method for existing pilots where Aaron will explain thermal theory and how to fly cross country efficiently and safely. For non-pilots it can be a thrilling way to see terrain from a birds eye view, witnessing first hand what it's like to link several thermals together in order to make fly far distances. XC Tandem flights are weather dependent and can occur in many locations based upon request from the passenger.
Cross Country Course - $500 (3-5 days) *
Flying cross country is not easy despite what the top pilots make it look like. It takes a lot patience, discipline and experience to become a successful XC pilot and a helping hand along the way can make a huge difference. This course is available to P2 students and above and will cover the majority of what you need to know about flying cross country whether it be for fun or for a competition. Aaron will spend 3 dedicated flights with you, explaining the goals for the day and what challenges will need to be overcome. Each flight will include a debriefing to analyze mistakes that were made so improvements can be made each time. An important part of the course is learning to use a GPS and vario including how to download waypoints, setup a task, fly the task and later download the track log so it can be analyzed. It is recommended to have your own GPS so you learn to use your own gear but both a GPS and vario are available to the pilot if needed.
GPS, Vario & Radio Course - $200 (1-2 days) *
This is a shoter version of the cross country course designed to help you get setup with your instruments. This covers everything from choosing the right gear in your budget, to downloading and uploading flight data and finally how to properly position instruments in your harness so they are secure and useable. Instruments can be confusing and down right annoying when you don't know how to use them but with a bit of help they can help you set new personal bests for yourself and keep you safe in the air and on the ground!
Hike & Fly Course - $300 (2-3 days) *
The reason I got into paragliding was to hike up mountains and fly off the top. In this unique course, I will do by best to teach you everything I know about hike and fly adventures. The most important points being choosing a launch and a landing site and learning how to forecast the weather in remote areas where weather stations are uncommon. Many manufactureres sell dedicated hiking gear now but it is difficult to know what you should get. I will help you figure out which gear is right for you and show you how to make even 'heavy' gear light by packing it correctly and removing un-needed weight from accessories. The finale for this course will be to pick a mountain and hike it together and fly from the top.
* All course prices are automatically rolled into the price of any higher courses. For example, if you pay for a day lesson and decide to try a solo flight later, the price of the already paid for day lesson is subtracted from the solo flight cost. This applies all the way up to the Novice License Course.
All courses must be completed within one year unless extenuating circumstances apply.
